About the Artist

Ivonne Ferrer (b. 1968, Cuba) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans printmaking, painting, ceramics, and conceptual work. She studied at the San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts and the René Portocarrero National Silk-Screen Printing Workshop in Havana. Her first solo exhibition took place in 1990 at the Fidelio Ponce Gallery in Havana. That same year, Ferrer relocated to Spain, where she joined the Spanish artistic circuit and participated in the Universal Exposition Seville ’92 at the Arts Pavilion. In 1994, she exhibited in Copenhagen alongside artists Fernando Somoza and Julio Girona. Ferrer moved to the United States in 1995 and was featured in the 1997 documentary Marked by Paradise by Mari Rodríguez Ichaso. Her work has been presented in exhibitions including Cuban Trinomial at Botello Gallery in Puerto Rico and (R) Evolution Comics at the Aluna Art Foundation in Miami. She has also participated in residencies and workshops in Madrid and Sarasota. Beyond her studio practice, Ferrer has been active as a curator and educator. She curated Agave y Caña at the Mexican Cultural Institute in Miami and participated in the 2022 Miami Fiber Biennial at the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Americas. In 2023, she represented the Fine Art Ceramic Center at the NCECA Conference in Cincinnati. Since 2020, Ferrer has served as Director of the Fine Art Ceramic Center at the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Americas.
