Noel Dobarganes
About the Artist
Noel Dobarganes is a Cuban-born artist whose practice revolves around time, memory, and the sensory power of color and texture. A graduate of the Escuela Profesional de Artes Plásticas Roberto Diago, Dobarganes constructs richly layered compositions where color, line, and ornament converge. His spaces are often dense—approaching a sense of horror vacui—reflecting his fascination with decoration and visual abundance. Texture plays a central role in his work, whether physical or implied, creating surfaces that feel seductive, vibrant, and almost tactile, inviting viewers into a sensorial dialogue with the painting. Moving fluidly between abstraction and figuration, Dobarganes has explored rural landscapes, animal forms, portraits, and the human figure with equal confidence. As noted by critic and curator Piter Ortega, his work is marked by dynamic movement, bold chromatic contrasts, and a complex relationship between figure and background—often allowing the surrounding space to dominate and envelop the subject. Through layered paint and shifting light, Dobarganes examines the relationship between humanity and nature, as well as the intersections of past, present, and future. These elements come together in a visual language defined by depth, rhythm, and a poetic intensity that distinguishes his work. He currently lives and works in Miami, Florida.
